Indian Institute of Technology - [IIT], Kharagpur

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, established in 1951, holds the distinction of being the first IIT in India and was founded on the grounds of the Hijli Detention Camp, a site of great historical significance in the Indian independence movement. Located on a massive 2,100-acre campus in Kharagpur, West Bengal, IIT Kharagpur is the largest IIT by campus area and offers one of the widest ranges of academic disciplines among all IITs. The institute has 19 academic departments covering engineering, architecture, law, management, medical science, and humanities. IIT Kharagpur is home to the Vinod Gupta School of Management, the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, and the BC Roy Technology Hospital. The institute's research output spans semiconductor physics, ocean engineering, biotechnology, cryptography, and railway engineering. Its placement cell connects students with over 300 recruiters annually, with average packages exceeding 18 LPA.
