A new standard has been established by individuals from all around the country who have excelled in the single-window Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2024 for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Rise in Pass Percentage and Cut-Offs
The pass rate rose this year, with 48,248 applicants getting into the 23 IITs to fill 17,740 seats. A more competitive test environment was also indicated by the increases in the qualifying cut-offs in every category. Of the 1,80,200 applicants who took the exam on May 26, 26.77 per cent passed. The pass percentages from 2022 and last year were 24.26 per cent and 26.17 per cent, respectively.
Top Achievers: Ved Lahoti and Dwija Patel
Ved Lahoti and Dwija Patel stand out among the best performers. Originally from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Ved studied for the test in Kota, Rajasthan, a location known for its demanding coaching environment. His methodical study regimen, which included a 14-hour workday, paid off when he achieved the best score in JEE Advanced ever. Ved, who is very interested in computer science engineering, intends to study it at IIT Bombay.
Top among female applicants was Dwija Patel of the IIT Bombay zone, who scored an astounding 332 and placed seventh overall in India. Dwija, on the other hand, preferred to remain at home and enrol in a local coaching institution since she felt more at ease and concentrated in familiar circumstances. Top ranking students often choose IIT Bombay’s Computer Science Engineering department, which is where Ved and Dwija have their sights set.
Zonal Contributions and Distribution of Qualified Candidates
The zone around IIT Madras—which includes Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry—was the largest supplier of eligible applicants. Four out of the top 10 rankers and 145 of the top 500 applicants came from this zone. This zone’s steady success highlights both its fierce competitiveness and solid academic base.
The distribution of qualified candidates among the seven IIT zones is as follows:
- IIT Delhi zone: 10,255 candidates
- IIT Bombay zone: 9,480 candidates
- IIT Roorkee zone: 5,136 candidates
- IIT Kanpur zone: 4,928 candidates
- IIT Bhubaneshwar zone: 4,811 candidates
- IIT Guwahati zone: 2,458 candidates
7,964 of the 48,248 applicants that made it through are women. 179 applicants are having OCI/PIO status and only seven international candidates qualified for the test, down from 13 the previous year.
New Counselling Process and Future Plans of Toppers
The Joint Seat Allotment Authority counselling procedure now includes a new prepayment option, according to an announcement made by IIT Madras, the organizing institution for JEE Advanced. This streamlines and improves the procedure by enabling applicants to pay their fees prior to the “mock round” and seat allocation.
Among the other outstanding performers, Aditya, who placed second with a score of 346, intends to study computer science at IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay. Aditya, who is now competing for India at the Asian Physics Olympiad in Malaysia, also wants to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for further study. Aditya’s father Pawan Kumar emphasised his love of physics and his successes in international Olympiads.
Apart from Bhavya Tiwari of Noida, who scored AIR-19 with 323 points, Kanav Choudhary of Ghaziabad scored AIR-56 with 311 points. These students are models of commitment and brilliance, encouraging the next generations to pursue academic goals with great promise.
