Students are not clear as to when will these well-known competitive exams for higher education will be conducted this year.

It was on 25 June, the information was made public that CBSE board exams for pending subjects of 10th and 12th classes are being cancelled.
Soon after the announcement with regards to CBSE exams was made public, students began questioning about the status of NEET UG JEE Mains 2020 exams.
Education affairs never managed to go smooth this year, first it was CAA protests that halted CBSE exams, later on the outbreak of corona virus played the spoilsport for other exams and NEET UG JEE Mains 2020 exam were no exception.

However, these two exams also could not be conducted on time this year due to outbreak of corona virus. CBSE said the pending exams would be conducted from 1 to 15 July were cancelled.
The importance of NEET UG JEE Mains 2020 can never be undermined. This year over 15 lakh students are said to have applied for NEET UG. The same for JEE Mains 2020 is about 9 lakhs.
JEE Main 2020 is usually conducted for first time in January and second time in April. This year, JEE Mains January was conducted, but the one to be conducted in April got postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak.
Similarly, NEET UG 2020 was also postponed. Union Minister for HRD announced that JEE Mains April will be held between 18 to 23 July and NEET UG will be held on 26 July.
However, this does not appear to be possible as of now, says S. Mohanakrishnan, also a lecturer. We are not yet confident of conquering COVID-19, hence the chances of conducting the popular exams now appear to be remote.

Challenges are more with regards to conducting NEET exam. Many feel it is a pen and paper test and conducting it requires exam centres.

Schools and colleges are usually the exam centres for NEET, if the educational institutions remain closed now owing to lockdown for a longer duration, conducting NEET may not be possible.
Even if they are made to open, preparing them for exams will be a herculean task, says educationists.
The exam centres for NEET have to be disinfected, safety kits have to be made available for the exam staff.
Students also must be taken care of and doing all this in a less time frame may not be possible. Meanwhile demand for postponing NEET UG JEE Mains 2020 has gone up among the students also.
This demand to postpone NEET UG JEE Mains 2020 is visible clearly on the social media also. A recent tweet ‘Jay Jagannath Ji’ by Union HRD Minister has got lot of responses with hashtags like ‘#postponejee’ ‘#HealthOverNeetJEE’ and so on.
The same requests with regards to NEET UG JEE Mains 2020 were sent to National Testing Agency (NTA) which conducts the exams.
Interestingly there is no dearth of people who want NEET UG JEE Mains 2020 to be conducted on time. S.R. Murthy, also a retired teacher said exam could be conducted if social distancing norms are followed.
Postponing the exams further may cause unwanted complications, he says. Agreeing with him is P. Abhiraman, a 12th student.

However there has been no official announcement in this regard so one can keep fingers crossed as of now.
Sources also say the decision with regards to postponing NEET UG JEE Mains 2020 could be taken after reviewing the existing situations. Students can wait till the decision has been made.
