The JEE Main 2025 January session exam Day 1 took place today, January 22. Following the Day 1 exam, many subject experts have predicted that this year the JEE Main 2025 cutoff for the JEE Advanced exam will remain the same or slightly increase. Students claimed that the overall examination was moderate.
Math’s was moderate and very lengthy in shift 1 and shift 2, Physics was moderate in both shifts and Chemistry was easy in both the shifts. According to the overall level of difficulty of the exam, experts have forecasted that the minimum JEE Main 2025 marks to qualify for the JEE Advanced exam will be between 91 to 95 percentile for the general category candidates.
JEE Main 2025 January Day 1 Exam Analysis
IIT Kanpur has reported that 2.5 lakh candidates will be shortlisted under JEE Advanced 2025, but the total candidates may slightly exceed 2,50,000 due to the tied ranks or scores within any category. The total number of candidates selected last year was 2,50,284. As the conducting IIT for JEE Advanced 2025, IIT Kanpur has defined the number of candidates to be selected from each category as under: 1,01,250 from open category, 25,000 from general EWS category, 67,500 from OBC-NCL, 37,500 from SC and 18,750 from ST. Besides, 5% horizontal reservation is also available within each of these five categories for PwD candidates.

The cut-offs for JEE Mains for qualification for JEE Advanced shot up the most in the last five years to reach the maximum last year. Cut-offs are as follows:

The NTA will determine the JEE Main 2025 Cut off for Admission to JEE Advanced 2025 after taking both sessions of the JEE Main 2025 examination into consideration. The first day of the JEE Main 2025 Session 1 exam took place today, and exams will continue on January 23, 24, 28, 29, and 30. Session 2 will take place from April 1 to 8, and registrations for Session 2 will begin on January 31.
The JEE Main 2025 cutoff for JEE Advanced will be released by April 17, along with the results for Session 2. The All India Rank (AIR) for JEE Main 2025 will also be announced with the Session 2 results. The result for the January session of JEE Main 2025 will come out by February 12.
The cutoff for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam will be decided on the basis of the cap to be set for the candidates selected in each category. This would be in addition to a few other factors such as the total number of seats available in the IITs for the upcoming session, the overall number of candidates appearing for JEE Main, and the difficulty level of the exam.
Registration for JEE Advanced 2025 for candidates who have qualified JEE Main will start on April 23. The candidates can apply on jeeadv.ac.in by authenticating their identity with JEE (Main) Application Number, Name, and Date of Birth that appear on their JEE (Main) 2025 admit card. The JEE Advanced 2025 exam will be conducted on May 18.
