If you’re dreaming of a career in the Merchant Navy or maritime sector, the next few days are critical. The IMU CET Admit Card 2026 has been officially released on May 16, 2026 — and the exam is just around the corner on May 24, 2026.

Missing your admit card or showing up unprepared can cost you an entire year. This guide covers everything you need — where to download the hall ticket, what symbols and details appear on it, eligibility criteria, all important dates, and exam-day instructions. Read every section carefully so nothing catches you off guard.

 What Is IMU CET 2026?

The Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET) is a national-level computer-based exam conducted by the Indian Maritime University (IMU). It serves as the single gateway to undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs in maritime education across India.

Programs accessible through IMU CET include:

  • B.Tech (Marine Engineering)
  • B.Sc (Nautical Science)
  • Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS)
  • MBA (Port & Shipping Management)
  • M.Tech (various maritime specializations)

IMU campuses accepting IMU CET scores are located in Chennai, Navi Mumbai, Kolkata, Kochi, and Visakhapatnam. Affiliated colleges across India also admit students based on this rank.

IMU CET Admit Card 2026 — Key Details Released

The Indian Maritime University activated the admit card download link on May 16, 2026 — exactly eight days before the examination. This follows the standard practice of releasing the hall ticket approximately one week prior to the exam date.

The admit card is available exclusively online through the official IMU admissions portal. It will not be sent by post or email. However, registered candidates receive an SMS and email notification once the card is live, directing them to log in and download it.

Carrying the admit card to the exam hall is mandatory. Without it, entry will be denied — no exceptions.

How to Download the IMU CET Hall Ticket

Follow these steps carefully to avoid errors:

Step 1: Open your browser and go to the official website — imu.edu.in or the IMU CET admissions portal at imu.cbexams.com.

Step 2: Click on the “IMU CET 2026 Admit Card” link displayed on the homepage or under the Admissions section.

Step 3: Enter your User ID (Application Number) and Password registered during the application process.

Step 4: Click Submit / Login. Your admit card will appear on screen.

Step 5: Review all details carefully (name, roll number, exam center, date, and time).

Step 6: Click Download or Print. Take at least two color printouts and store one safely.

Tip: Use a browser like Chrome or Firefox. Avoid Internet Explorer, which may cause display issues on older government portals.

Eligibility Criteria for IMU CET 2026

For UG Programs (B.Tech Marine Engineering / B.Sc Nautical Science / DNS)

  • Education: Passed Class 12 (or appearing) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized board.
  • Minimum Marks: At least 60% aggregate in PCM (50% for SC/ST candidates).
  • English: A pass in English at 10th or 12th level is mandatory.
  • Age: Generally 17 to 25 years as of the date of joining. Age relaxation applies for SC/ST/OBC as per DGS norms.
  • Medical Fitness: Candidates must be medically fit as per DGS (Directorate General of Shipping) standards. A medical examination is conducted during the admission process.
  • Gender: Both male and female candidates are eligible. However, some specific programs may have gender-based eligibility as per DGS regulations — verify from the official prospectus.

For PG Programs (MBA / M.Tech)

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree with 50–60% marks.
  • CAT/CMAT/MAT scores are also accepted for MBA; GATE/CUET-PG for M.Tech in certain cases.
  • SC/ST candidates get 5% marks relaxation.

Key Point on Medical Fitness

Maritime programs under DGS approval require candidates to pass a pre-sea medical examination before final admission. Colour blindness, uncorrected vision beyond permissible limits, or certain systemic conditions can be disqualifying. Get your medical check done early — don’t leave it for the last moment.

Documents to Carry on Exam Day

On May 24, make sure you carry:

  • Printed IMU CET Admit Card 2026 (color printout preferred)
  • One valid government-issued photo ID — any of the following:
    • Aadhaar Card
    • Passport
    • Voter ID
    • Driving License
    • PAN Card
    • School/College ID card
Entry is not permitted without both the admit card and a valid ID. Arrive at least 2 hours before the scheduled exam time.

 Exam Pattern & Syllabus Overview

Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT) Duration: 3 hours Total Questions: 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer; no penalty for unattempted questions

Subject Number of Questions
Physics 50
Mathematics 50
Chemistry 25
English 25
General Knowledge 25
General Aptitude 25

The syllabus broadly follows Class 11 and 12 CBSE/State Board standards. IMU CET has increasingly shifted focus toward testing conceptual understanding and logical application rather than rote memorization.

A score of 120–130 out of 200 is generally considered competitive for top maritime programs, with a rank under 2,000 being the target for B.Tech Marine Engineering at the main IMU campus.

Conclusion

The IMU CET Admit Card 2026 is now live — the hardest part of the waiting game is over. Your focus now needs to shift entirely to exam preparation and logistics. Download your hall ticket today, verify every detail, and plan your exam day with zero room for surprises.

The Merchant Navy is one of the most rewarding career paths for science students — high global salaries, international travel, and a clear career ladder. But the journey starts with doing the small things right: downloading your admit card, reaching the exam center on time, and answering smartly with negative marking in mind.
