Details & Symbols on the JEE Advanced Admit Card 2026

Every element on your hall ticket carries meaning. Here’s a full breakdown of what’s printed — and why each piece matters:

Personal Details

  • Candidate’s Full Name — Must match your photo ID exactly
  • Roll Number / Registration Number — Your unique exam identifier
  • JEE Main Application Number — Cross-reference with your JEE Main records
  • Date of Birth — Used during login and identity verification at the centre
  • Photograph & Signature — Must be clearly visible; blurry prints may cause entry issues
  • Correspondence Address
  • Category (General / OBC-NCL / SC / ST / GEN-EWS / PwD)

Exam Details

  • Exam Date: May 17, 2026
  • Paper 1 Timing: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Paper 2 Timing: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
  • Exam Centre Name & Address
  • Reporting Time — Typically 30–45 minutes before the paper starts

Symbol / Code What It Means
PwD Persons with Disability — extra time (1 hr/paper) may apply

Eligibility Criteria 2026 — Complete Breakdown

JEE Advanced is not open to everyone who appeared for JEE Main. All five eligibility conditions must be met simultaneously.

Criterion 1: JEE Main 2026 Rank

You must be among the top 2,50,000 qualifiers in Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) of JEE Main 2026 across all categories. This is the primary filter.

Criterion 2: Age Limit

Category Date of Birth Requirement
General / OBC-NCL / GEN-EWS Born on or after October 1, 2001
SC / ST / PwD Born on or after October 1, 1996 (5-year relaxation)

Even an outstanding JEE Main rank cannot override an age limit violation.

Criterion 3: Number of Attempts

A candidate can appear in JEE Advanced a maximum of two times, and only in two consecutive years. You cannot skip a year between attempts. The count starts from the year you first appear — not the year you register.

Example: If you appeared for the first time in 2025, your second and final attempt is 2026. You cannot attempt again in 2027.

Candidates who registered and paid the fee but were absent in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are treated as not having appeared — they remain eligible and must re-register.

Criterion 4: Class 12 Qualification

You must have appeared in Class 12 (or equivalent) for the first time in either 2025 or 2026, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, from a board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Students who first appeared in Class 12 in 2024 or earlier are not eligible — with one exception: if a board declared its 2023–24 results on or after June 18, 2024, candidates from that board who appeared in 2024 may be eligible.

Criterion 5: No Prior IIT Admission

If you were previously admitted to any IIT under any program listed in JoSAA Business Rules 2025 — regardless of whether you continued or left midway — you are not eligible.

However, you remain eligible if you:

  • Were allocated an IIT seat via JoSAA 2025 but did not report online or at a reporting centre
  • Withdrew before the last round of seat allotment
  • Had your seat cancelled before the final round
  • Were admitted to an IIT Preparatory Course for the first time in 2025

Class 12 Marks Requirement for IIT Admission

Qualifying JEE Advanced is not the final step. For actual IIT admission, you must also have scored 75% aggregate in Class 12 (or be in the top 20 percentile of your board). For SC/ST/PwD candidates, the minimum aggregate is 65%.

What to Carry & What NOT to Carry on Exam Day

 Must Carry

  • Printed color copy of JEE Advanced Admit Card 2026
  • Original Photo ID — Aadhaar card, PAN card, Driving License, Passport, Voter ID, or School/College ID
  • PwD certificate (if applicable) for compensatory time

 Strictly Prohibited

  • Mobile phones, smartwatches, or any electronic gadgets
  • Calculators (scientific or otherwise)
  • Earphones or Bluetooth devices
  • Any written material or notes
  • Wallet-sized items not required for the exam

Confiscation of banned items is standard, and in some cases, candidates have been barred from the exam for carrying prohibited materials.

 Last-Minute Preparation Strategy

With just days left, here’s what actually moves the needle:

Do NOT start new topics. Revisit high-weightage areas: Mechanics, Electrochemistry, Organic Chemistry reactions, Calculus, and Coordinate Geometry. These consistently appear across papers.

Practice time management over accuracy drills. At this stage, knowing when to skip a question and return later is more valuable than grinding a single problem for 15 minutes.

Solve 1–2 previous year papers (2023–2025) in full exam conditions. Simulate both Paper 1 and Paper 2 in one sitting. Stamina is real — don’t ignore it.

Sleep and nutrition are non-negotiable. On May 16, sleep by 10:00 PM. A rested brain retrieves information faster than an exhausted one trying to compensate with caffeine.

On exam day, reach the centre at least 45 minutes early. Late arrival causes anxiety, which directly impacts performance.

 Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Not printing the admit card — Digital copies are not accepted at centres
  • Ignoring centre address — Many cities have multiple centres; verify the exact address on Maps a day before
  • Skipping Paper 2 — Both papers are compulsory; appearing in only one invalidates your result
  • Not verifying admit card details — A wrong exam centre city found on exam morning has no solution
  • Overconfidence or panic in the last week — Both are equally dangerous; stick to your revision plan

After the Exam — What Comes Next?

Once you write the exam on May 17:

  • May 21, 2026: Copy of your responses will be made available — download and review them
  • May 25, 2026: Provisional Answer Key releases; you can raise objections if needed
  • June 1, 2026: Final Answer Key and JEE Advanced 2026 Result declared
  • Qualified candidates appear on the rank list and become eligible for JoSAA Counselling for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs
  • Candidates interested in B.Arch at IIT (BHU), IIT Kharagpur, or IIT Roorkee must additionally appear for the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) on June 4, 2026
