According to an official statement released on Sunday, the Chhattisgarh government will soon incorporate local languages and dialects into elementary education in the state’s tribal districts, following the National Education Policy (NEP). According to the report, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has asked the education department to create and distribute bilingual books in 18 local languages and dialects as part of the effort.

During a ceremony marking the ‘Shala Pravesh Utsav’ (school entrance feast) on July 5, CM Sai stated that textbooks and teaching materials would be translated into local dialects, and teachers would be trained in these languages as part of the project.
School Education Secretary Siddharth Komal Pardeshi stated that books for schoolchildren are being created in 18 native languages and dialects in Chhattisgarh. Pardeshi stated, “In the first phase, courses would be developed in Chhattisgarhi, Sargujiha, Halbi, Sadari, Gondi, and Kudukh.

The assistance of litterateurs, folk artists, and compilers from across the state will be sought. Aside from that, participation will be sought from senior residents and teachers.” Dinesh Sharma, Principal of High School Bagia, appreciated the initiative and stated that tribal youngsters possess talents.
He stated that more and more youngsters from tribal communities will have the opportunity to succeed if they receive education in the local tongue. Every student in India is required to acquire three languages, according to the NEP 2020 formula: two of the languages should be local to the country, including one regional language and the third language should be English. A similar announcement had been made in January 2020 by Bhupesh Baghel, the former chief minister of Chhattisgarh.
