Amity University Marks World Water Day with Workshop on Innovative Water Management Strategies

To mark World Water Day, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida campus, organised an insightful workshop on innovative water management strategies. The event brought together leading experts, academicians, and students to discuss sustainable approaches to water conservation and resource management, an issue that continues to gain urgency in today’s rapidly changing environmental landscape.

Amity University Organises Workshop on World Water Day

The workshop centred on the pressing need for interdisciplinary solutions and technological innovation to tackle water scarcity and environmental degradation. Speakers highlighted that sustainable development cannot rely on a single approach; instead, it demands a coordinated effort that blends policy frameworks, scientific research, and active participation from communities, institutions, and industry.

Jagvir Singh, Scientist G and Adviser at the Ministry of Earth Sciences, emphasised that addressing water-related challenges requires a balance of innovation and awareness. He pointed out that while technological advancements are critical, cultivating awareness, especially among students, is equally important. Encouraging young minds to participate in scientific initiatives and research-driven solutions, he noted, can play a transformative role in tackling resource depletion.

Adding to this perspective, Sundeep, a scientist at the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, stressed that technology alone cannot solve water issues. He underscored the importance of community involvement, explaining that collaborative efforts among local communities, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders are essential to developing practical, scalable solutions. According to him, sustainable water conservation depends as much on human behaviour as it does on innovation.

Meanwhile, D K Bandyopadhyay, Mentor at the Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences, highlighted the fundamental role water plays in sustaining life. He called for improved management of both surface and groundwater resources, highlighting effective practices such as rainwater harvesting and watershed management. These approaches, he noted, are not only sustainable but also essential in mitigating the growing stress on water systems.

The academic perspective was further reinforced by S P Singh, Domain Head of Natural Resources and Environmental Science at Amity University. He explained that the primary objective of the workshop was to raise awareness among students and to provide a platform for exploring practical solutions for environmental protection and sustainable water use.

Beyond expert discussions, the workshop also featured student-focused activities centred on water conservation, climate change, and biodiversity. These initiatives were designed to actively engage young participants, encouraging them to think critically about sustainability and their role in shaping a more environmentally responsible future.
